Ultrasonic Attenuation Measurement Using Backsgattering Technique

چکیده

Ultrasonic backscattering measurements by means of spatial averaging technique were carried out in steel to determine the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The attenuation coefficients were evaluated from the exponential decay of the backscattering signal. The results were compared with those obtained by evaluating the amplitude decay of the main pulse. Good agreement is observed provided the condition a 5 • A. « l is valid, i. e. Rayleigh scattering with d/'J... ~ 0 .2 and/or weak elastic anisotropy of the single crystal. Otherwise multiple scattering becomes dominant and the amplitude decay of the backscattering curve is no longer related to the attenuation coefficient.

Non-collinear wave mixing for non-linear ultrasonic detection of physical ageing in PVC

This work considers the characterization of linear PVC acoustic properties using a linear ultrasonic measurement technique and the non-collinear ultrasonic wave mixing technique for measurement of the physical ageing state in PVC. The immersion pulse-echo measurements were used to evaluate phase velocity dispersion and attenuation of longitudinal waves in PVC test specimens. The suggested nonco...

Reliability of measurement of skin ultrasonic properties in vivo: a potential technique for assessing irradiated skin.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Quantitative and objective technique to assess radiation-induced tissue fibrosis is important for clinicians to estimate the efficiency of radiotherapeutic schemes. It has been widely reported that ultrasonic properties are sensitive to changes of acoustic scatterers in biological tissues. Therefore, measurement of ultrasonic properties may serve as a potential assessment techni...

Attenuation Coefficient Estimation Using Equivalent Diffraction Points with Multiple Interface Reflections

The ultrasonic attenuation coefficient of a fluid or solid material is an acoustic parameter routinely estimated in nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and biological tissue characterization. In this paper, a new measurement and analysis technique for estimating the attenuation coefficient as a function of frequency for a fluid or solid is described. This broadband technique combines two establishe...

The Ability of Ultrasonic Characterization to Extract the Dose Distribution of MAGIC-f Polymer Gel

Background & Aims: Today, different imaging techniques have been studied in the reading of radiationsensitive polymer gels dosage. Due to limitations of imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), ultrasound techniques are proposed for dose-dependent parameter extraction. In this study, using MAGIC-f (methacrylic and ascorbic acid in gelatin initiat...
